The Need
Right now, in your own community, there is a mom who is struggling, ready to give up. Everyone was so supportive during the adoption process, but now her friends no longer call. Caring for children that have experienced trauma is so challenging and no one really understands what her family is going through. Everyone is on always on edge, never knowing what might trigger an unpredictable reaction in their home. This child is so loved, yet the home is riding a roller coaster of emotions that never stops. No one truly gets it, and Mom feels so alone.
But she is not alone. Other adoptive and foster families are feeling the same way. There is healing and encouragement when these families can spend time together, but the resources to do so are often lacking. Foster and adoptive families tend to be larger than most, so even a weekend getaway can be financially and logistically difficult.
The Solution
Leeward House Retreats exists to provide connection and support to these families through fun, engaging weekend camps. Thanks to generous donors, we keep costs low for the families. We take care of every detail, from lodging arrangements to coordinating meals and engaging activities. Families can simply focus on showing up and enjoying the experience, knowing that we’ve taken care of the rest.
The Result
Connecting as a family outdoors. Nature is healing. Family bonds grow.
Connecting through fun activities. Building trust. Trust brings healing. Trying new things. Conquering fear.
Connecting with others. Private time to talk. Understanding.
Reconnecting as a couple. Onsite Date Night. Quiet dinner.
Connecting with God. Family worship. Surprise gifts. Encouraging notes.
The Experience
This is a small sample of our 2023 retreat. It was our first family camp weekend, and it was amazing!
